Principal's Report

Presentation Night
Presentation Night on Wednesday 9th December was a huge success. Thanks to Jenny Power and Kevin Stapleton, who coordinated the evening and to all the staff and students who contributed. I was impressed by the quality of the performances. I congratulate the students who received achievement awards and prizes.

Year 10 Graduation
Year 10 students finished the school year with their graduation ceremony on Thursday 10th December. I congratulate them for their achievements; a large number of them received awards in addition to their Graduation and School Certificates. Some Year 10 students are leaving us to take up employment opportunities or attend other institutions. They leave with our best wishes for their future success.

National Solar Schools Program
Parents and community members may have noticed the installation of solar panels on the roof of C-Block. The school received $50,000 under the National Solar Schools Program and we are using it to install solar panels and energy efficient light switches. We should save significant amounts of energy. The panels are linked into our computer network as well so that the students can monitor our energy usage in science lessons.

Security Fencing
Installation of our security fence has commenced and should be completed by the beginning of Term 1, 2010. It will benefit the school and community greatly as we have had numerous incidents of vandalism and graffiti from older youths from outside the school on evenings and weekends.

The sixth edition of School Parents is out now. Here, you will find great information about helping your child settle into a new school, holiday ideas and holiday reading, the facts on bullying, school book labels, how to host a safe teenage party and Dr Karl talks about science as a career. Happy Holidays
I wish everyone in our school community a safe and happy holiday. I have enjoyed my first year in the school and I am looking forward to a very productive year in 2010. Thank you for your ongoing support of The Forest.

Principal
