Education Week
Education Week commences next week 2nd to 6th August. To celebrate The Forest High School has invited all Year 7 parents to visit the school and observe a selection of Year 7 and 8 classes. Parents are to arrive at the school by 9:00 am, where SRC representatives will escort them to the designated classes. The Principal will be addressing parents in the Staff Common Room between 10:00 am and 10:20 am and morning tea will be served at the conclusion of the class visits at 11:10. I thank Deputy Principal, Jane Dean for the organisation of Education Week and I thank the teachers who have arranged to open their classrooms for parents.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Industry Work Placement
I would like to thank Deputy Principal, Shane Molony, for his leadership of the Industry Work Placement initiative. Eleven Year 9 students have worked this week with a landscape gardener to completely refurbish the two gardens between D-Block and the Library near the PAC. The students helped plan the garden, select plants and design and construct the wooden seating.
In addition to the practical work involved with this project, the students participated in job skills, interview skills and resume writing workshops with a mentor teacher.
The students who participated in this project will be thanked by the school at a formal assembly. The school community appreciates their positive contribution to improving the school environment. This project received Regional funding for which we are also appreciative.
WoW Book and CD-ROM Launch
Wednesday 28th July the Web of Writers (WoW) Project Book Launch was held at Beacon Hill Public School. Students from The Forest High School, Allambie Heights, Beacon Hill and Frenchs Forest Public Schools presented their descriptive writing pieces for the public launch of the books and CD-ROMs. Students, teachers, parents, principals and Dean White, the School Education Director attended the launch. Two students from each school read their work to the audience. The two students from The Forest High School did an outstanding job and all the students are to be congratulated on their participation in this project. Not only did our students write their own pieces, but they mentored Year 4 students and helped them edit and refine their work.
This is the second year of this project and I look forward to seeing it continue for years to come. The project builds strong links with our partner primary schools and develops strong friendships between our students and younger students in those schools. I thank Lyndell Town and her faculty for her hard work in the WoW project.

Silver for Concert Band
Congratulations to all members of the Concert Band and its committed conductor Patrick Brennan for an excellent performance at the recent Yamaha Festival, achieving a Silver Award in the highly competitive B-Grade high school competition.
This was the band’s first opportunity to compete in this prestigious festival for a couple of years and in a higher grade than we’ve competed previously. Although faced with unfamiliar equipment and staging, hot and blinding lights and different acoustics, Patrick was very happy with the band’s efforts. The school community should all feel proud of this excellent result, achieved after much hard work, effort and commitment by all band members over a number of months. Thanks also to all band parents for their ongoing time, commitment and support of the band program.
