PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Wednesday 10 December, 7pm... a date for the diary!
This is the final School Council and P&C meeting for the year and on this occasion we will be officially acknowledging the contribution of the Commonwealth Government ($150 000) to the upgrade of the Canteen, the building of the COLA and the Water Conservation Grant.
This money was provided under the Investing In Our Schools Program and the Commonwealth Minister of Education has provided a speech that will be presented on the night.
Friday 12 December, 3pm to 7pm... another date for the diary!
The energy of the P&C is unbounded as they present the first "End of Year Carnival". Entry is free but wrist bands (tickets) can be pre-purchased now for $25 for unlimited thrill rides, family rides, side shows and much more.
This discounted ticket offer is available until Friday 21 November. Pay at the school Cashier.
We expect this to be a great family event for all the community.
Duke of Edinburgh Scheme
'Thank You' to Mr Taylor and Ms Wallace for taking a group of students on their preliminary Bronze overnight walk last weekend. The walk was a great success and many of the students found the walk a challenge, however the camp site, cooking, friendship and satisfaction overcame the tiredness.
Behaviour Concerns
It is disappointing to report poor behaviour by a number of our students (boys and girls) in our community. On assembly this week I mentioned local businesses who have observed rude behaviour and some minor vandalism to the property of a neighbour. Such events give our whole school a bad name.
I ask parents to monitor where their children are in the evenings and especially this weekend. I understand there is a Halloween event organised by Warringah Council on Friday night and I believe that some parents drop their children there without actually ensuring they actually walk into the event. The school is taking some actions to ensure the school is safe from Friday night.
Mr Peter Gillam - Principal.
YEAR 10 REPORT
Year 10 have now completed their trial School Certificate Exams and have a full understanding of what lies before them in week 6 when they sit for their School Certificate. I urge all parents to actively participate in supporting their students as they get ready for this important exam. For study to be effective students need plenty of sleep, a balanced diet and to drink lots of water.
All students have been given a study guide to help them organise their time more profitably. Please go through this with them and ensure they have established a pattern of revision and study to prepare themselves. It is a good idea to have their Study Timetable in a prominent position (eg. on the fridge) so that the whole family can support the students as they prepare for these exams.
After Exam Program: All parents carers and students should have received a copy of the term 4 dates. If you did not receive this letter please notify the office immediately, as it contains very important information.
Year 11 Camp 2009: Information will be sent home shortly regarding the year 11 camp term 1, 2009. This camp is compulsory for all the students to complete the 25 hour course which is a mandatory component of the year 11 Preliminary Year and must be completed before movement into Year 12. The cost of the camp is $245. A deposit of $100 will be required to be paid prior to graduation during week 8. A letter with more information will be sent in the next few weeks.
Graduation: Please make sure you have noted the time for the graduation which is at 10am on Friday December 5. I look forward to joining with you there and celebrating the completion of the students’ junior schooling.
I wish each and every student the best for their exams and hope they are successful in obtaining their personal best grades.
STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL
The SRC have returned from Leadership Camp last week full of ideas for the year ahead. Our new Captains - James Moorhouse and Rose Griffiths - ran a well organised programme, and we have started our planning for next year in our weekly meeting on Tuesday. The Multicultural Mini Fete will return, with plans to make it bigger than the highly successful day the SRC coordinated in 2007. We also plan to run another of our fun Trivia Nights and of course the traditional Welcome Back Dance. Many other proposals have been put forward and as decisions are made in regard to in school programmes we will inform the whole school.
This week has seen Callum Bedos, Stephanie Wilkins, Bianca Heys and Hilary Page represent the school at the 2008 Willoughby Youth Forum - 'SCHEDULE ME IN" - A discussion about youth health and wellbeing. Our District SRC representatives will be attending their first forum of the new SRC year on Friday at Warringah Council chambers. The Forest High has an outstanding leadership team for 2009 - willing to give their time freely for the school.
A thank you to Mr Molony and Mrs Stubbs for accompanying us on the Leadership Camp - we appreciate them giving up their sleep time to spend with all of us.
The SRC and Miss Murray
