Positive Behaviour Engaging Learners (PBEL)
The PBEL signs and banners have been delivered and are currently being installed in all
areas of the school. We are just waiting for some areas of the school to be painted before
we complete the installation. The SRC is working with the PBEL Leadership Team to
design the lessons for teaching all students about respect, responsibility and personal
best. Students from the SRC have been actively rewarding students on the playground
if their area is clean and they are in full school uniform. Students receive a free drink bottle
and a raffle ticket for a $5.00 canteen voucher to be drawn at assembly each week.
Additionally the students in SRC are developing a number of skits relating to respect, responsibility and personal best to be presented on school assemblies.
Duke of Edinburgh
This weekend 42 of our students are undertaking the Great North Walk between Sydney and the Central Coast as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award program. The Award provides an enrichment program designed for young people aged 14 – 25. Participants engage in a number of activities over a set length of time and design their own program centred on their interests and passions. The program is entirely voluntary. The vision of the Duke of Edinburgh program is to empower all young Australians.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Thank you to all the parents who attended our Year 11 and 12 Parent Teacher Interviews. We welcome the opportunity to meet with parents and discuss the students’ progress. I would strongly encourage parents to attend the Years 7 and 8 Parent Teacher Interviews on 17th June and the Years 9 and 10 Parent Teacher Interviews 29th June as they provide a valuable opportunity for parents to personally meet teachers and discuss their children’s progress.
School Musical
Tickets are now available for “Grease”. Opening night is Wednesday 23rd June with performances also scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights. I have had the pleasure of viewing a number of the rehearsals and I have been most impressed with the standard of the singing and performance skills of the students in the production. We look forward to seeing you there.
Are your contact details up-to-date?
Please make sure you inform the front office if your emergency contact details have changed.
Make the school aware of any special family circumstances
Any changes to your child's family situation can impact on their emotional and academic well-being. Inform your child's teacher and principal about any changed circumstances so that the child can be supported if necessary. Examples of special circumstances include the birth of a sibling, divorce or the death of a loved one.
Internet safety tip
Encourage your child to talk with you about their online experiences – good and bad
This will make it easier for them if they see something inappropriate or are emailed something unsuitable. If they are embarrassed to tell you, persuade them to at least tell a teacher or another trusted adult.
Dealing with teenage girls and peer pressure
School Parents online magazine offers some great advice for parents including:
· Find out where your daughter gets her messages from
· Get involved in your daughter's world
· Be straight about the no-go zones
· Seek advice from friends and experts
· Be your daughter's role model
· Encourage your daughter to be assertive
· Be aware of changes in behaviour

NSW Premier’s Student Volunteering Awards Program
NSW Premier’s Student Volunteering Awards Program
The NSW Premier’s Student Volunteering Awards program is especially for students in Years 9 and 10. The program is designed to encourage students to be active participants in their school and community, be generous and giving with their time and talents, and to help make things better for others less fortunate.
As a way of saying “thank you”, when you have completed 20 hours of volunteering, you’ll be eligible to receive a Bronze Premier’s certificate. After a further 20 hours (when you reach 40 hours), you’ll be eligible for a Silver certificate; when you’ve completed 60 hours, a gold certificate; and when you’ve undertaken 80 hours of school and community volunteering, you’ll be eligible for a Diamond Premier’s certificate.
Working out what is, and what isn’t, volunteering
Volunteering can be so many different things. It can be helping younger students in an after-school homework/tutorial centre, assisting elderly residents of the local Nursing Home to read newspapers or learn new computer technologies, gardening or pet care for a neighbour who is sick or injured.
There are a few key “rules” around what is and what isn’t volunteering:
• It should be undertaken of the student's own free will, and not for payment of any kind.
• The activity must reflect a genuine need, not just something you think somebody should want you to do.
For further explanation of what is and what isn’t volunteering speak to the School Coordinator, Ms Murray.
If you have ideas about things you would like to do as part of the Premier’s Awards program, discuss them with your school coordinator to determine if they are appropriate to be included in your volunteering tally.
Students who are interested in becoming involved in the Award Scheme need to contact Ms Murray in the Library for further details and to collect Log Books. Those students who have already stared the Program need to start bringing in their Log Books so volunteer hours can be verified and collated on the website.
STUDY SKILLS TIP FOR JUNE – COMPUTER SKILLS
Now that computers play such a large role in our lives, it is worth thinking now and then
about your computer skills. This month, one of the new units on www.studyskillshandbook.com.au<http://www.studyskillshandbook.com.au> looks at
Basic Computer Skills – you’ll find it in the For Students tab. Some of the areas covered are
firstly physical care for your computer, there are all sorts of hazards from pets to dust that
can cause problems for your computer. The unit also suggests ways to set up your files and
folders for school, nothing worse than trying to find a file when they are all named science1, science2 etc. And don’t forget the importance of regular back-ups and system checks to
ensure your files are protected and your computer runs smoothly. When did you last do a
back-up of your files and where do you keep this back-up? Lastly, if you are a notebook or
laptop user, you’ll definitely want to check out the section on maximizing battery life.

BOYS 1ST GRADE VOLLEYBALL
"I would like to take this opportunity to commend the students in your school's 1st Grade Boys volleyball team. They showed extreme passion and extraordinary sportsmanship and manners
when we played them in a NSWCHS Volleyball KO game. I have been involved with volleyball
for many years and as a referee, I have often encountered bad sportsmanship from young
students when calls go against them.
The manner in which your students conducted themselves when referreing decisions went
against them was faultless. When explained a ruling that was new to them, they accepted
the decision, which in today's climate of sport is a rare occurence and one that should be applauded."
Email sent to the school from teacher of opposition team.
P&C MEETING
The next P&C meeting will be on the 16th June at 7.30pm in the Library. All parents are
welcome.
