Leaves NewsletterThe Principal's Report
Our new School Plan 2009 - 2011 is well under way. Staff, students and parents worked together this week to identify what we should be doing and how we can do it. A number of key themes have emerged from that consultation and we will be seeking to address them. The next three years will see a strong focus on improving our communication across the school and the community. We will be building strong partnerships with the Forest Learning Community of Schools and streamlining all our methods of communication.
There are a number of areas in which the community will see change at The Forest. We have identified a need to focus on educational strategies for boys' and girls' education and the use of technology in the classroom. Our staff development in 2009 will be aimed at the development of innovative projects and strategies to enhance classroom teaching and student learning.
Soon we will be surveying our community with a view to developing extension and enrichment programs for our students in 2010. A number of parents have expressed the desire for such programs; however, we want to look at several models before we decide on one for The Forest. We want to ensure that enrichment and extension programs are accessible to a broad number of our students, not a small minority, and we will be implementing a variety of initiatives across the school to achieve this.
I would like to conclude by mentioning that many individuals in our community have been touched by the bushfire tragedy in Victoria. In response our Year 12 students have undertaken several fundraising ventures and will be contributing $1300 in donations to support the victims of the fires. Once again I have been impressed by the maturity and compassion of the students and the strong culture of social responsibility evident across the school community.
