PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

We have reached the important time of year when Year 10 students and their parents are considering subject choices for the senior years.  I would like to thank all of the parents and staff who attended the information evening last Tuesday. The evening went a long way towards demystifying the HSC and demonstrated the outstanding parent community involvement at The Forest High School.

Fisher Road Outreach Program

Congratulations to Daniel Denham, Sarah McCallum and Cassie Warriner who helped students with disabilities from Fisher Road School participate in educational programs at The Forest High School during June. These students were great representatives for our school.

Examination Period

The Year 12 Trial HSC examination period has commenced and will conclude on Friday August 15. All students need to be utilising a consistent study program to achieve the marks they deserve and overcome examination pressures. We wish Year 12 well in these important examinations.

Shane Molony

Acting Principal

YEAR 7 REPORT

We are now half way through the year and you would have received the half yearly reports. It is great to report that year 7 are continuing their fantastic start to high school and that overall the half yearly reports were very pleasing.

We had the pleasure of handing out over 40 Certificates of Achievement for year 7 students from the reports. The teachers and I felt that there were a lot of students who needed to be acknowledged, not only for their fantastic results, but also to acknowledge those who have displayed outstanding attitude and behaviour. We were fortunate enough to receive a reward certificate from Forest Way McDonalds for each student!!, so a thank you must go to them for their support.

As this is the first time we have used the new reporting system we hope that it has given you an indication of how your son/daughter is fairing. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the teachers or myself at the school.

As you would expect, it hasn’t all been plain sailing- the main issue we have had to deal with has been bullying. This is always a difficult issue and one that no parent/student or teacher likes to deal with but with 150 students from such a diverse range of backgrounds there is bound to be some differences. We ask for your continued support in teaching the kids that we will not tolerate bullying under any circumstances, and if it occurs, they will face severe consequences.

As we move into term 3 and the colder months of the year it is great to see the students in full school uniform. We thank you for all your support in ensuring that your son/daughter is in their uniform when they leave home.

A quick reminder to everyone that the Year 7 Gala day is on Tuesday 12th August. Also, I would like to congratulate all those who entered the Maths competition and who were successful in representing the school at the Zone Athletics carnival.

Finally I would like to take a moment to acknowledge all of you who are doing a great job in rasing your teenager and supporting the school through what can be some interesting times.

Tony Dowling – Year 7 Adviser

First Fundraiser for 2008 – SHOPPING TRIP

The shopping trip was a great success – we had 26 very excited women from all over the area and we managed to visit 12 outlets and enjoyed a sit down lunch at the Southern Cross Hotel.

All the outlets made us feel very welcome and we managed to spend around $11,000 collectively!

This means around $1,000.00 raised for our school, so many thanks to all those dedicated shoppers and supporters of our school.

FUNDRAISER TWO – TRIVIA NIGHT – 20TH SEPTEMBER 2008

Look out in the leaves for flyer and ticket purchases – tables of 8 for $15 per person (includes light supper) rally all your friends and family and support your school. We are currently receiving much support from sponsors donating some fabulous prizes so it looks like a great night ahead.
