PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

School Improvements

The DET has agreed to undertake the following improvements to the school before June 30th and this work has commenced:

·         Clean and paint exterior of the school including all external doors and panels

·         Repair damaged and leaky roofs covering walkways

·         Repair hand rails in stairways in Hall

·          Install gas heating in the Hall.

Students, staff and visitors to the school are advised to take care while this work is being completed.

Athletics Carnival

The Athletics Carnival held Thursday 20th May was extremely successful, with a number
of students achieving outstanding results. It was great to see so many students participate enthusiastically and represent their sporting house. The SRC has introduced a House
Trophy and the Athletics Carnival will be the first major competition that will count towards winning it. I would like to thank the staff for their participation in ensuring the carnival ran smoothly. Thank you also to the many parents who attended and supported the students.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Year 11 and 12 Parent Teacher interviews are scheduled for Tuesday, 1st June from
3.30 pm onwards. Year 7 and 8 interviews are scheduled for Thursday 17th June and
Years 9 and 10 are scheduled for Tuesday 29th June. Letters regarding the interviews
will be posted home to parents shortly. We look forward to seeing parents on the night.

Eco tip

Did you know? Australians are among the highest water users in the world.

What can you do? Turn off the tap while cleaning your teeth – you can save around 5 litres of water every time.

Internet safety tip

Stranger danger is online too

Ensure your child never organises to meet up with any strangers that they have met online.
If they really want to meet up, encourage them to talk to you about it first and insist on
going along with them. Remind your children to also be wary opening emails from
strangers too. They could contain spam (online junk mail), a virus (which will harm your computer), or be from a stranger looking for trouble.

Setting priorities and time management tips

  • Create a daily 'to do' list.
  • List goals and set priorities.
  • Do 'A's' first (Most important things).
  • Do it now.
  • Ask yourself "What is the best use of my time right now?"
  • Be realistic: New habits take time to develop.
  • Reward yourself for small steps of progress towards your goals each week.

DEBATING NEWS

Congratulations to our Year 9 and 10 debaters who defeated the Riverside Girls High team
last week in a tightly contested competition. The topic was ‘That home schooling should
be banned’ and The Forest  High argued the affirmative.  Our team was comprised of
Jaimee Simonsen (10) and Jennifer Scherer (9), Ingrid Bromhead (9) and Ruby Hardie (9)
and coached by Mrs Barrett.  Jasmine Derriman (9) assisted with preparation for the team
and acted as chairperson on the day. Well done girls!

FEES REMINDER

We would appreciate payment of any outstanding school fees as these are now due.
Your urgent attention to this matter would be very much appreciated as we utilise
school fees to fund a number of programs that significantly benefit our students.

NB.  Elective fees are compulsory as they are used to pay for consumables used
