PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Year 12 Graduation

The Year 12 Graduation and Formal held Thursday 19th November were the final events for The Forest High School 2009 Year 12 students. The students looked stunning in formal wear and the ceremony highlighted the high regard in which they are held by their parents, the staff and the community. We wish them all the best as they wait for their HSC results and we are anxious to hear from them afterwards. Their parents and teachers are all extremely proud of their achievements.

High Resolves

In 2010 The Forest High School will be implementing the High Resolves program for all Year 8 students. High Resolves is designed for teenage students in years 8 to 10, with two major programs that build on each other: global citizenship and global leadership. High Resolves is a not-for-profit, non religious education initiative that seeks to motivate high school students to view themselves as purposeful global citizens and to acquire mindsets and capacities they will need to lead their communities, and the world to a brighter future. The program is delivered through a creative mix of interactive simulations, role-playing exercises and small group discussions to help students grow into their role as leaders working to improve their schools and serve society.

High Resolves links strongly with the Year 7 Enrichment Program we are implementing in 2010. Year 7 Enrichment will involve all students in authentic, open-ended projects and the development of learning and study skills. Year 7 students will work with teachers and community members and link to young people in other communities and cultures through the Connected Classroom. We at The Forest are very excited to be able to offer these innovative enrichment and leadership programs to our students in our junior school.

The International Day of People with a Disability

The annual celebration of International Day of People with a Disability (IDPwD) will be held the 3rd December.

IDPwD brings together people with disability and the general community and aims to:

  • Showcase the skills, abilities, contributions and achievements of people with disability
  • Promote a positive image of people with disability
  • Involve people with disability and the broader community in activities to celebrate and raise awareness of IDPwD.

Help When You Need It

The current edition of School Parents ezine shows families how they can seek emotional help and support when they need it. Whether it's face to face, on the phone or via email, there is a service that could help and some are ready to help at any time of day, seven days a week.

If it’s an issue affecting the whole family a good place to start is the school counsellor. School counsellors are available for all students from K to 12 and their families.

For more information and a list of services that can help visit the School Parents ezine at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/news/ezine/yr2009/issue05/help.php
